FAQs

How can I support?

  • Sign up for 2-hour hair cutting or braiding shifts. This is a paid opportunity for hair professionals.

  • Extend the invite! Our goal is to recruit a diverse roster of volunteers.

  • Tax-deductible donations provide supplies and pay service providers.

How do I donate?

$10 provides 1 student with a haircut, educational lesson, and opportunity for clothing assistance. An estimated 250 students are offered services. To sponsor students district wide, local non-profit organization Spread Your Wings can accept CashApp at $spreadyourwingsLLL. Cash or check to Spread Your Wings can also be accepted at Studio Flair salon. Please include memo “COMO FLAIR” with all donations.

How do schools partner with COMO FLAIR?

COMO FLAIR extends partnership to all title-1 elementary schools. With assistance of the Home School Communicator on staff, we offer services to the entire 5th grade class while providing particular care for students in need of resource assistance.

Why is this opportunity only for 5th grade?

Building a strong foundation with our youngest graduates allows for traditions to be built while positively impacting students’ lives throughout their childhood and adolescent academic career. As our program expands, high school students will have opportunities for career exposure and hands on experiences that lead to servicing peers as well as younger students. The pairing of elementary and high school students socially and emotionally benefits the development of all ages involved.

HIGHLIGHT

Reported by the Columbia Missourian on May 22, 2024.

“A black cap and gown were given to each student. Some opted to show off their new hairstyle and proudly wore the gown minus the cap. Each fifth grader walked across stage and accepted a copy of Dr. Seuss’ ‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’ as the audience cheered. Fresh hairdos peeked out under caps and shone in the spotlight as the true stars of the ceremony were recognized.”

A’niyah’s hair stylist, Omni, says she’s big about giving back to kids.

“Omni Scott is a volunteer and mom of a fifth grader at another school. She worked on laying edges and retwisting locs. Scott was proud to provide representation for the young black girls getting their hair done.”
